The most important trend of the beginning of the year will be the growing role of artificial intelligence, according to Ericsson’s “10 Hot Consumer Trends for 2017″ report. Respondents expect that it will become a support in their work and everyday life, managing our time and reminding them of their daily duties. Consumers’ lives will also be determined by the growing number of devices communicating with each other, as well as the development of virtual reality. In the next three years, it will become indistinguishable from the reality in which we live.

One fourth of the respondents even declared that they would like artificial intelligence to function as their manager. However, this is accompanied by fear that intelligent robots in some professions will replace the work of people.

According to Ericsson’s research, the next important trend will be the development of the Internet of Things, especially related to new 5G solutions. Two out of five respondents expect smartphones to learn their habits and automatically perform certain activities for them.
– 5G is a slogan we use to define a completely new reality that will revolutionize the connection of devices rather than people. In 2018, according to Ericsson’s research, there will be more connected things than subscriptions to mobile phones,” says Ericsson ConsumerLab’s Communications Director.
Forecasts indicate 29 billion items connected to the Internet in 2022. Market estimates for the first half of 2016 assumed about 6.5 billion everyday devices connected to the network at the end of this year.

However, one third of Internet users claim that there is no privacy on the Internet anymore.
Consumers also expect the “merged reality” phenomenon, i.e. the intermingling of the reality in which we live with the augmented reality (AR) and the virtual reality (VR), to spread. Nearly four out of five users of virtual reality believe that it will become indistinguishable from the real one in the next three years.

The growing popularity of virtual and augmented reality may, on the other hand, increase the demand for tablets for cardiovascular disease, according to the forecasts of one third of Ericsson’s respondents. Similarly, sales of these drugs will be affected by the proliferation of autonomous cars. A quarter of pedestrians would feel safer crossing the street if all cars were autonomous. Moreover, 65% of them would like to have such a car.
– The element that has become secondary among consumer trends, even though it used to be higher, is online safety. In a recent study, it was ranked eighth. Two out of five respondents believe that they would actually like to have additional security measures or passwords that would make it difficult to access their data, but many of them also claim that at the moment, full security is not possible if we ourselves do not take responsibility for what we put online.
